Mindfulness for Youth

Exploration of a sense of self, the world outside and the part they want to play in it is a big part of adolescence. In the aboriginal cultures, rituals and traditional practices celebrate the transition into this phase of life.

In our fast paced world we have let go of many of our practices and adolescents often struggle dealing with emotions, anxiety, self-esteem and peer pressure that typically accompanies this age.

This weekly 1 hour session program Mindfulness for youth introduces adolescents to a concept of a mindfulness practice and builds upon each concept for eight weeks.

Mindfulness for Youth helps them navigate the challenges of growing up. It encourages students to explore their values, build resilience, and compassion.

The core concepts of exploration during this process are

  • Attention
  • Inattention
  • Attitude
  • Resilience
  • Gratitude
  • Empathy
  • Compassion

The program guides children through a sense of inquiry and curiosity about their own responses to situations, their perceptions without the burden of judgment. Through practice, it allows them to build and strengthen the foundations of mindfulness which is to pay attention to the present moment.
