I first came to meditation looking for a way to reduce the daily stress of my life. Not only did I find this, I found a new way of living. I have maintained a meditation practice in the Vipassana tradition since 2006. I have learned the value it brings to children by meditating with my son and have seen the difference it made in his performance at school. I have taken mindfulness to schools to provide coping tools for children. I pursued my mindfulness studies through University of Toronto and received my Applied Mindfulness Meditation Specialist certification. I am a member of Mindfulness Toronto and an active member of Discover Mindfulness. I am also a certified children’s yoga instructor, a certification I undertook to incorporate movement into my mindfulness programs for children.

My philosophy is simple – Be Present. We often worry about the future or we dwell on the past. The key to stress relief is to live ‘now‘, to savour the ‘present‘. Instead, we replay the past or get caught up in various scenarios of the future and the result of not being present, is that we become agitated and stressed.

The benefits of ‘mindful living’ are well documented. Jon Kabat-Zinn, founder and former director of the Stress Reduction Clinic at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center, helped introduce the practice of mindfulness meditation to mainstream medicine. His work demonstrated that practicing mindfulness can improve an individual’s physical and psychological well-being. Meditation can manifest positive effects on your health attitudes and behaviors; it fosters positive attitudes that will contribute to you living a more satisfied life. Participants in my Mindfulness Programs have described the experience as life saving, life changing, educational and fun.
